JUDGING
Liya: Hello lovely ladies, and welcome to your third judging! This week you ladies actually had two tasks instead of one which will be equally weighted tonight. Your primary task was a runway show for none other than Michael Kors, but meanwhile you were being photographed backstage for a behind-the-scenes shoot. Let's get to the critiques, starting with Abbey Lee per usual.
Abbey LeeRunway (2:29-2:37) - You had an interesting walk, Abbey. I think you looked fantastic in the dress and overall look very gorgeous on the runway, and your face had the right amount of energy and confidence. Your legs were a bit funky though; you walk with your feet a bit far apart, almost like you’re bow-legged, and you have a little too much hip action...though it’s not completely a bad thing because at least it sets you apart and gives you a signature walk.
Photo - I have to compliment both you and the photographer for this shot because everything comes together so nicely, the angle is perfect for the reflection in the mirror. Anyway, you look great, very beautiful and refined yet still candid and engaged with the makeup artist. My one nitpicky complaint is that you appear to have old-looking hands here, so perhaps moisturize more or something, but overall I think it’s a great shot.
ArlenisRunway - Runway isn’t really your thing, is it? You didn’t do poorly out there, but you didn’t do great either, you were just kinda average. Your skin and legs looked fantastic and you had some nice swagger, but overall you lacked the refinement I had hoped for and you were a bit tilted.
Photo - You have one of the most natural looks and best track records here so I thought you would excel in the shoot, but I’m not particularly impressed. Your skin looks great per usual and you do look beautiful, but I’m not really drawn to this shot, there’s nothing to keep me engaged and interested.
BarRunway - You did better on the runway than I had expected; I was afraid you might go too sexy or something, but you actually walked with plenty of poise, and you had such great posture. I do think that there was something a little too casual about it though, I think perhaps you swayed your arms and crisscrossed your legs too much. It was certainly a passable walk though.
Photo - There was something lacking as I went through your film, and I just now realized that it was freshness; it's harder for your age to go unnoticed in an unretouched shot. Anyway, aside from the lack of freshness, this photo is pretty good. Your eyes look fantastic in this shot, they are quite piercing and I am very drawn to them. Your bone structure also looks quite nice. One thing I am not liking is your neck/chin/jaw area, something about it seems condensed and tense so perhaps try to lift your chin and push your neck forward a little more when sitting to avoid that.
CatherineRunway - You looked great out there Catherine, clearly a natural on the runway. You wore the outfit very well and had a lot of strength in your stride, and your bone structure looked wonderful as well. Your expression was a little creepy and murderous though and you were slightly stiff-shouldered, so watch out for that.
Photo - This is quite beautiful Catherine, very serene and in-the-moment. You look like you're at peace and in the zone while getting your makeup done, and you look very beautiful and a little ethereal as well. I don't have anything negative to say really...I guess it could have more wow factor, but overall I'm impressed.
CintiaRunway (0:46-0:52) - You had a fair walk, Cintia. You looked very fresh and pretty, and overall walked with a good amount of poise, though I think you swayed your shoulders a bit too much. Definitely a good and passable walk, but not particularly memorable.
Photo - Ooh, very posh and glamorous, you look like royalty here. You have a beautiful profile and such great eyelashes, and your hair looks all kinds of amazing. There’s also a sexy, languid confidence in your expression that I like, as if you’re saying “Yeah, I’m worth all of this attention.” I don’t really like your arm sticking out, but otherwise I love this, definitely your best shot so far.
EmiliaRunway (right) - You...looked very out of the place on the runway, I am sorry to say, more like a Junior Miss pageant contestant than a runway model. I did like the energy and life you brought to your face and how you put one foot almost directly in front of the other. However, you looked so tiny out there, like a petite model, and your overall proportions looked a bit strange as well. Additionally, you looked very young, and not in a good way; there’s a difference between looking fresh and looking juvenile, and you leaned more towards the latter I’m afraid to say.
Photo - You look much better in this photo than on the runway. Here you look fresh as opposed to juvenile, and there’s also a classic quality here that I like a lot. Your skin, lips, and overall facial structure look quite nice, and I like how your eyes connect with something in the distance. Your shoulders are a little tense and this does seem a little posed, but overall I really like this.
EugenaRunway - You were one of the more forgettable girls on the runway, Eugena. The dress did look very nice on you and your skin looked amazing, but overall you lacked a certain energy and power to hold my attention.
Photo - Now this photo is all kinds of glamorous, you look like such a high-end diva. Your skin looks fantastic, your lips are so luscious, you have a great neck extension, and your bone structure looks great as well. Your eyes are a bit wonky and disengaged though, so watch out for that.
JacRunway (1st) - Sometimes I just have to wonder if you are actually real because you look so flawless in motion. You looked fantastic in that gown, you walked with such elegance and grace, and you had a perfect stride and strut. You looked a little angry though and I wish you had paused a moment at the end, but overall well done.
Photo - The same opening line I used for your runway critique applies here; you look like a queen. Your neck is so long and your jawline looks great at this angle, and your skin is just so flawless. I can’t really think of much to critique really, you just did very well.
JessicaRunway (1st) - You looked very bored out there, Jessica; a little more energy and your walk would have really come to life. You had a good stride though at least and looked good at the outfit, and overall you looked much more refined and edgy than I had expected, but you lacked a certain presence necessary to stand out.
Photo - This is a surprisingly editorial shot Jessica, you’re really telling a story here. Your expression is very somber and melancholy yet also dreamy and nostalgic, which is a perfect expression to have while looking down out of a window. Your eye color itself is so beautiful as well, and you look fresher here than usual which I love. Like Emilia this seems a little posed, but overall I really like it.
JosephineRunway - You have a very good walk, Josephine, you were definitely a natural out there. You looked very beautiful and had a good long stride, and you had an airy quality that matched your dress very well. There was something a little tight and stingy about your expression though, like that sneer I told you about in week 1, so continue to work on that and then you'll be perfect.
Photo - This is such a stand-out shot, I love it. You catch the light so perfectly in the shot, making you the center of attention. Your bone structure and lips look great and there's a dreamy quality in your eyes that makes the photo overall remind me of a still from a classic black and white movie. Your nostril does look a bit flared and you don't look quite as pretty as usual, but overall this is among my favorite shots of the bunch.
KirsiRunway (2nd) - You looked very fresh and elegant on the runway Kirsi, and you gave some attitude which was unexpected but appreciated. I do think that it felt a little rushed though, so next time just slow it down a little and enjoy the moment more, but overall you did well.
Photo - This photo is absolutely gorgeous Kirsi, I love it. You got all the technicalities perfect that I’d look for in a professional photo, but this is still clearly in-the-moment and candid. Your neck looks quite long, your bone structure is just crazy amazing, your skin is so smooth, and your eyes have a dreamy quality that I find enchanting, though they are looking in slightly different directions which bothers me, but otherwise this is flawless.
LilyRunway - That dress was made for you Lily, you just looked beyond amazing in it. You had so much poise and grace to match it, your leg looked great, and you had such a great stride, though your arms were rather rigid. Your face definitely brought you down though, you looked terrified, so I wish you brought more confidence and energy to match your stride.
Photo - You ran into the same problem as Bar backstage of not looking very fresh. I don’t think that’s a big problem here though, and overall I like the photo. I like how it’s one of the most candid photos of the bunch, you really don’t seem aware of the cameras but you still look great. You seem completely absorbed in doing your makeup, though you do look a tad tired and this shot doesn’t particularly stand out.
OlgaRunway - You have one of the more unique and signature walks of the bunch, both in a good and bad way. You looked gorgeous, very statuesque and refined, and your legs looked especially amazing. Your walk was a bit stereotypically girly though if you know what I mean; with your arms struck out and swingy and the bounce in your step, I almost expected to start skipping, so try to contain yourself a little more.
Photo - This is a pretty photo, but not without its flaws. You do look very refined, glamorous, and beautiful, yet still candid, and you connect well with something in the distance. Your arm is very awkward though and your expression seems a little confused, and I actually think the model in the background outshines you a bit. Not a bad shot, but also not your best work.
