Jac: *Confessional* *rolls her eyes* It really annoys me how they even let some of these girls that are so pedestrian walk in the door. Like Bar. Come on. Stop teasing the girl giving her hope that she could do anything other than porn. She's too short, she's too fat, and she's too ordinary. The only girl who I think could have some potential is Kirsi and that's even pushing it.

CASTING PROCESS
*Liya is waiting in an office when Mitsuko Watanabe, editor-in-chief of Vogue Japan, walks in* *They greet each other and sit down in front of a big high-def monitor*
Liya: Are you ready to review the hopefuls? Mitsuko: Yes, yes I am! Liya: Then Let’s get started. *the first photo pops up on the screen*
Abbey Liya: Well, that’s quite a high bar to set for the start. Mitsuko: Oh, agreed, I would run this cover in a heartbeat. If all the others are this great then we are going to be here for quite some time. Liya: Agreed. I can only find a few tiny flaws, but overall I’m very much a fan of this and of her. Mitsuko: Definitely. There’s not much to discuss really, I’m all for her.
Alla Liya: This is...unique. Mitsuko: If by unique you mean frightening, then I agree. I am not so sure about this cover, I don’t want to scare the consumers away. Liya: Well, it will certainly catch people’s attention. I do understand what you mean by frightening though, her expression is a little manic. I think she has potential though. Mitsuko: I’m not sold yet, but I’ll think about it. Let’s move on for now.
Arlenis Liya: This is a good cover, definitely passable. Mitsuko: True, but I don’t run a good magazine, I run a great magazine, and I am not looking for just a passable cover, I am looking for a great one. Liya: Yes, this doesn’t particularly stand out, but she definitely fits the aesthetic very well and I see a lot of versatile potential in her. Mitsuko: I agree, and I suppose not every cover can be out of this world, and this would certainly still sell.
Bar Liya: I really enjoyed meeting her, she was one of the biggest stand-outs in person. Mitsuko: Ah, but the fact that you opened with that instead of commenting on the cover is a bad sign. Consumers don’t get to see her in person, so however impressive she was there is irrelevant with this unimpressive cover. Liya: Well, they will get to know her as a person if she’s successful and likable on the show, and that will sell you a cover. I don’t think it’s that bad. Mitsuko: It’s not bad, but I’m not a fan of it. But what you said is true, so she’s a maybe I guess.
Bregje Mitsuko: Where’s her neck? She is very hunched in this shot, it looks as if she had to scrunch herself up to fit on the cover and that’s distracting. Liya: I agree, but I also think it’s still a fine cover. She looks good, and definitely fits your aesthetic. Mitsuko: Fair enough I suppose, but I’m still not a huge fan. But she’s another I’ll think about.
Catherine Liya: Now that’s a cover. She’s confident and commanding yet still inviting, and she looks gorgeous. Plus her potential is through the roof. Mitsuko: I agree with you completely. However, this is almost a little too simple and summery; it looks more like an American or Spanish or Australian Vogue cover than Japanese to me. Liya: That’s true, but it still fits your aesthetic I think. Mitsuko: I guess it does, yeah. And it will be a summer cover anyway so the summery feel is acceptable.
Cintia Liya: This is adorable, and so is she. Mitsuko: Oh totally, but adorable wasn’t quite what I was looking for. It’s on the fringes of acceptable. Liya: So will you accept it? Mitsuko: Well, I don’t think it’s a spectacular cover, but I can’t deny that I am oddly drawn to it and the consumers could be too, so I might give it a chance.
Emilia Mitsuko: *pauses and looks at Liya* Liya: *pauses and looks at Mitsuko* What are you thinking? Mitsuko: I don’t know, I’m very torn right now. This technically fits the brief, but it’s not quite the sort of cover I typically publish. Liya: That’s what I was thinking. I do think it’s the most impressive shot we’ve seen so far though, she looks extraordinary and the only flaw I can find is the lack of neck. You could take a risk. Mitsuko: I agree. It’s not so far off our aesthetic that it wouldn’t work, and I definitely think it would stand out and sell very well.
Eugena Mitsuko: What is this? Why isn’t she looking at the camera?! Liya: I don’t know, but I do know that this is a marvelous photo. Mitsuko: Which is why it’s such a shame that she has no eye contact, or even open eyes for that matter. Vogue Italia or Vogue Paris might go for something like this, but I like my models to be face forward. It would work for a supplement cover for sure, but main cover...I just don’t know. Liya: Could you take a risk? Mitsuko: I’ll think about it.
Fabienne Liya: I love this girl's name, but I only just like the shot. Mitsuko: Agreed. It would be a passable cover, but nothing to write home about. She seems like a filler to me. Liya: Maybe. I think she might have something, but I also am not sure if she will hold her own against the other girls. Let’s move on for now.
Jac Liya: The other girls will probably have to watch out for her because she oozes sooo much potential. Mitsuko: Agreed, but it’s a shame she didn’t use it all in this shot. It’s a good shot and will make a decent cover that will sell, but I expected more. Liya: I expected more too, so hopefully she will deliver more if she makes it in. It definitely works for what we asked for though.
Jade Liya: *silent pause* Mitsuko: *silent pause* Liya: I’m not sure what to say about this shot. I love it and I hate it at the same time. Mitsuko: That’s what I was thinking. It’s definitely a polarizing shot, which makes me hesitant to publish it as a cover. Liya: Polarizing can be good though, it would definitely cause a lot of buzz and attention though. It’s the type of polarizing that makes me want to see more. Mitsuko: I’ll think about it.
Jessica Mitsuko: I don’t know about her. Liya: Me neither. I do like her, but I think she is better than this shot. Mitsuko: I would hope so. It’s not a bad shot and would make a passable cover, but it’s not one I would be particularly excited to publish. Liya: I can see that. I still want to see more of her though.
Josephine Mitsuko: *without hesitation* Yes. Liya: Yes, indeed.
Katrin *both judges tilt their heads as they look at the shot* Liya: Well, this shot definitely caught our attention. Mitsuko: I agree, but I became disinterested after the head tilt. Liya: Me too I suppose, it’s not a bad shot but I think she’s trying a little too hard; she seems strained and unsure of herself. Mitsuko: I got that vibe too. I really like the styling though, and I wouldn’t mind running this cover I guess.
Kirsi Liya: For someone so nervous in person, she is apparently quite comfortable in front of the camera. Mitsuko: Clearly! This cover is so fashion-forward and ready to go, I would publish it without hesitation. Liya: Glad to hear it. She has a unique look that I wasn’t sold on at first, but this shot sold me I think.
Lily Mitsuko: Wait, why are we reviewing her a second time? And why is her hair so much lighter? Liya: *chuckles* You must be thinking of Bregje, but this is actually a new girl, Lily. Mitsuko: Oh, well then, I like this girl better! She has a much cleaner and more commanding cover. Liya: Really? I think I like Bregje a little better, she had a little more freshness and edge I think. But I do agree that Lily took a slightly better photo.
Meghan Mitsuko: Oh gosh, she’s even more frightening than Alla! Liya: Agreed, though I think she pulls it off much better as well. Mitsuko: True, this is definitely a much stronger and more commanding cover, though a bit too strong for my tastes I think. Liya: I see what you mean. She is the biggest question mark for me...she has undeniable high fashion potential, that’s for sure, but I’m still not completely sold.
Myf Liya: I like this girl, and she has very clear potential. Mitsuko: Does she know how to use it though? Because this photo doesn’t stand out much. Liya: I did have higher expectations for the shot, but I think it’s good. Not particularly interesting, but good. Mitsuko: But I don’t know if good is good enough for me. It would be an adequate cover, but would probably work better in a lookbook or catalog.
Olga Mitsuko: What was this girl thinking?! This is just... Liya: ...brilliant? I think this is a wonderful photo, so simple and serene yet it still leaves an impact, and both her face and body look superb. Mitsuko: That might be true, but I cannot remember the last time Vogue Japan has run a nude cover; definitely not during my run as editor-in-chief. People will confuse my magazine for Love. Liya: That was her inspiration, I think, and those covers were so well received and are what really put Love magazine on the map. Mitsuko: But I am already on the map and don’t want to be seen as copycat. Liya: Could you take a chance? I really like this and want to see more of her. Mitsuko: We’ll see.
*Liya and Mitsuko spend more time discussing some of the girls*
Liya: Well thank you very much for coming in and providing your input, Mitsuko. Mitsuko: It was my pleasure. You definitely don't have an easy decision on your hands. Liya: No, not at all. I'll spend some more time going over the shots and factoring in their potential though of course.

CASTING ELIMINATION Liya: Hello everyone! After a long and grueling deliberation assisted by Mitsuko Watanabe, I have finally made my decisions. I honestly wish I could take in all of you since each and every one of you has something special and unique to offer, but in the end there was only enough room for 14 girls, which is one spot more than I planned. I am very excited for these 14 girls though because they make up a very diverse and interesting cast. The decision was based largely on the cover photos but your potential was also factored in, and the final 14 ladies will be called down one by one in order of how they performed in casting. The first model to join the cast is... JOSEPHINE! You blew us away with your photo and potential, congratulations! The second model joining the cast is... KIRSI! With photos and potential like yours, I am sure you will build plenty of confidence in no time. Congratulations! ABBEY LEE! Congratulations, you really impressed us all around. EMILIA! You might be the shortest girl in the cast who doesn't play completely by the rules, but you sure left a very strong impression. Congratulations! CATHERINE! JAC! ARLENIS! LILY! CINTIA! Five names left. These last five girls took up the most debate between Mitsuko and myself, but I was able to took her into them. Now, the next name is... OLGA! Your shot was among my favorites but wasn't particularly fitting for the theme, so pay more attention from now on. Congratulations! JESSICA! EUGENA! JADE! I'm still not sure if I liked your photo or not, but it is the one I remember best so at least you left your mark. One name left. The final model joining the Cycle 10 cast is... BAR! Your charisma won us over in the end, but I really had to pull for you so you better not let me down. Congratulations, you are the final model joining the cast. *turns to those who did not make it and hugs each of them individually* I honestly would have loved to cast each and every one of you, so don't give up. All of you had just a little something holding you back whether a misdirection, an off photo, or a doppelganger *looks at Bregje*, but with a little refinement I know each of you could do well so I encourage to keep following your dreams and even reaudition next time. Goodbye, and good luck. *turns to the cast as they leave* Congratulations on making it into the house, ladies! *they all shout and cheer*

WEEK 1 ASSIGNMENT *Liya enters the model loft and gathers the girls around*
Liya: Hello lovely ladies, and congratulations once again for making the final cast of Cycle 10 of Who Wants to Be a Supermodel! *everyone cheers* Now, it's time to get down to business for your first photoshoot. For your first week, you ladies will be posing for my new LemLem fragrance: Royalty. The guidelines for the shoot should be pretty obvious based on the title of the fragrance; I want you all to look like queens--regal, proud, and mighty. The styling is open to whatever you think will help you portray that theme. Good luck!

I felt confident after the shoot, but then I realized that I didn't really know what I was supposed to do. Liya said to look like a queen, but I don't know if she wanted something soft and commercial or something more edgy. I just hope I delivered what she was looking for. Bar: *before her name is called she is trying to keep it together, but tears are running down her face. When it gets to one name left, you can see her mouth "please, please, please." When her name is called, she immediately breaks down and falls to her knees. When she composes herself, she is still crying, but approaches Liya to take her picture* Thank you so much, Liya. JUDGING Liya: Hello lovely ladies, and welcome to your first judging! For your first photoshoot you ladies shot ads for my new Lemlem fragrance, Royalty, and I expected you ladies to look like true royalty in your photos by oozing sophistication, beauty, and pride. Let's see how you did, starting with Abbey. Abbey - This is very beautiful, Abbey, I definitely see a queen here. You look very pretty, graceful, and elegant yet also commanding, and you worked the dress very well. I could easily see this as a fragrance ad. I wish you tilted your head up a little more so we could see your neck though, and there is a little unsureness in your expression, but overall great job. Arlenis - Wow Arlenis, you look like an exotic island queen being carried to her throne. You absolutely command attention here and you look so stunning. Your legs look wonderful and I love the curves you created because it flatters the dress so well, and facially you have such control. This would not have been an easy shot to pull off, but the only place I can see any strain is in the neck so great job. Bar - This shot is beyond beautiful, Bar, you looks so exotic, mysterious, and stunning. Your skin looks fabulous and I just get lost in your eye here, there is a soft power to it that really works. I wish you had a little more neck though, and I also wish that you fit the theme a bit better because while you could be a queen here, you could also be anything else so I don’t necessarily see Royalty, but I do see a stunning shot. Catherine - This is beautiful Catherine, very elegant and demure but also sly and mysterious. Your skin looks so amazing and you look gorgeous as well, and I do see Royalty here. I do think this seems a little more like a jewelry editorial than a fragrance ad though, it doesn’t have that commanding connection I had hoped for, but overall good job. Cintia - This is a very enchanting shot Cintia, you look so mystical and ethereal like an elf queen. I love all of the motion with the fabric and the hair, you have a great neck extension, and this is a beautiful angle for your face as well. I am not completely sold on your expression though; it seems like you let the styling and motion do the work for you and got lazy with the face. I see a hint of whimsical dreaminess in your expression, but I would have liked to see more. Emilia - I was a little disappointed going through your film, Emilia, because most of your shots were good but slightly missed the mark...until I got to this shot, which is just spot on. You look like a soft yet strong floral queen, very regal and ethereal. Your face looks so beautiful at this angle and your skin is just divine, and your expression has a solemn confidence that works. I might have liked to see a little more energy in the shot, but overall there’s a simplicity that I find enchanting. Eugena - After your casting shot I had such high expectations for you in this shoot, but you let me down a bit. I do think this shot is very beautiful and it does fit the brief, but it doesn’t particularly stand out and you look a little mature. I could more easily see this in a wedding lookbook than a fragrance ad, though it does still work and you do look quite elegant and beautiful at least. Jac - You had another shot in your film with swirling fabrics that I liked a little more, but this shot is just divine and works so much better for the theme. This is what I was hoping to see from you in casting Jac, your potential translates fully here. You looks so angelic, mystical, and beautiful, yet still regal and commanding. Your bone structure is a dream here as are the rest of your features, and I love how you worked with the dove. A little more life in the eyes and this would have been perfect. Jade - I am once again torn on your shot, Jade. This is a bit of a different direction than I had intended, but I don’t think it’s far outside of the theme either, just outside the box a little so I appreciate the risk at least. You definitely do command attention here and your leg looks great, but at the same time I do think the sexiness cheapens it a little; you look a little more like a naughty and nefarious queen than the regal and admirable one I had hoped for. Jessica - This shot definitely has perfume ad written all over it to me, but not necessarily the perfume I am selling. You do look very exotic, sultry, and beautiful, and I suppose the gilded quality to this shot adds a royal quality to it. I think you are capable of more though as something like this was quite expected of you and not quite right for the theme. Josephine - You kept on doing this scowly sneer in your film that detracted from the photos a bit so watch out for that. That’s not a problem in this shot at least though, you look very beautiful, sophisticated, and couture, like a queen should. You wear the dress very well and you caught the light perfectly with your face, and overall it definitely works for the theme. It is lacking in that extra something special to bring this shot from good to great, however. Kirsi - Well, if this isn’t royalty then I don’t know what is. You are a regal queen with an escort admiring sailors, that is quite clear and conveys the theme very clearly. You look so pristine and beautiful and you work the dress wonderfully, and facially you look beautiful as well. There is something a bit disconnected in your expression here and I do think that you arm is a little awkward, but aside from some microadjustments I think this photo is quite good. Lily - This is quite beautiful Lily, one of my favorite shots this week. You look so stunning and work everything from head to toe in this photo. The arch in the back and booty tooch are fantastic, you hold the roses very well, and facially you look gorgeous. There is something a little distraught about your expression though, and the setting definitely detracts from the royalty of the photo; you look more like a lost and abandoned queen than anything. Still a splendid photo though. Olga - Your film was overall much too sexy, but I do think you got it better with this photo. You look very regal and majestic here, I love the flowing fabric and the overall sensuality and beauty of the shot. I think you could have committed to your pose more in this shot though because it lacks tension and is coming off a little contrived; more strength in the legs, booty tooch, arched back, and graceful hands would have brought this from good to spectacular.

ELIMINATION Liya: Hello again lovely ladies, and welcome to your first elimination. 14 beautiful ladies stand before me, but after tonight that number will be cut down by one. To make this decision, I have judged your photos for Royalty fragrance, and overall the results were good. There wasn't a single bad shot in the bunch, but only two photos really blew me away so those two models will be receiving the ads for the fragrance! The first call-out was very close between them, but in the end the first name I will call is... ARLENIS! Congratulations Arlenis, your photo left the greatest impression on me this week and will be appearing as an actual ad for Lemlem's Royalty fragrance! JAC! You were so very close that FCO Jac, I was quite impressed with you and you will also be appearing in the campaign for Royalty fragrance. Congratulations! EMILIA! Great job this week Emilia, just work on having your whole film be this great next time. LILY! KIRSI! ABBEY LEE! CATHERINE! BAR! JOSEPHINE! JESSICA! CINTIA! OLGA! This was a very close week, so with more tension you probably would have been called near the top instead of near the bottom. Will Eugena and Jade please step forward? Two beautiful ladies stand before me, but for very opposite reasons. Eugena, you are so exotically yet classically beautiful, like a second coming of Naomi. You have so much potential and produced an exciting shot last week, but this week your photo was the dullest and most forgettable of the bunch. Jade, you on the other hand have a more unique and edgy look, and you produce unique and edgy photos that are anything but dull...but you seem to not understand how to use your look fully yet nor how to tone it down in photos. This is a very difficult decision as both of you are tied in scores right now, but the girl who will be staying is... EUGENA! I saw something very special in your Vogue Japan shot so bring that back because you are here by the skin of your teeth. Congratulations, you are still in the running. *hugs Jade* Jade, it really pains me to see you go because I had very high hopes for you and your creative spirit. In the end though you were just too polarizing and I felt that Eugena had a better chance to improve going forward in this competition. There is definitely a place for you in the industry, so don't give up. Goodbye, and good luck.

WEEK 2 ASSIGNMENT *The ladies climb into a limo which takes them to a glorious Long Island mansion on the beach* *They get out of the limo to see Liya waiting from them in front of the entrance wearing a haute couture gown* Liya: Hello lovely ladies, and welcome to the location for your second photoshoot! I bet that based on my wardrobe and the location, you have guessed that we will be doing a luxurious couture photoshoot this week, right? *the girls nod and applaud* *Liya rips off her dress to reveal intricate sexy lingerie underneath* Well, you're completely wrong then! This week you ladies will actually be shooting a campaign for Calzedonia. Calzedonia is a high-end Italian swimwear and lingerie brand, so naturally this week you ladies will be shooting in swimwear or lingerie. The choice is yours; those in lingerie will shoot inside the mansion or its balconies, while those in swimwear will pose by the pool or on the beach (I'll edit the shots into their locations). Whichever you choose, however, we expect sexy, sensual, and sultry looks, though still with class. Good luck!
