JUDGING
Liya: Hello lovely ladies, and welcome to your sixth judging! After this week, we will be down to the single digits...and since the numbers are dwindling, this week I revealed the Brand prizes and you ladies shot for them because soon, some Brand winners are going to be revealed! So let's get to the critiques, starting with the Commercial girls!
COMMERCIAL
Cara - Your
ad definitely works for H&M, they feature couples/groups very often in their ads so posing with another model was smart, though for some reason whenever you pose with another model, my eyes always go to you second. Anyway, I think you look amazing, this is a great angle for your face and your gaze is so captivating. Your legs look great and I love how your pose is both engaging with the other model and selling the outfit at the same time. I do wish you had more interaction with the male model facially, but overall great job.
Your
Cover is wonderful, it's plenty commercial and relatable and cute, yet you didn't even need to crack a smile. Your eyes are very dreamy and draw me in, you look so pretty, and your pose is very natural and comfortable. It is a little bit actressy, but with Teen Vogue that's not too much of a problem, so overall very well done.
Nathalie - Your
ad is fantastic. Your smile looks completely natural and genuine, your eyes have a nice spark and great connection, and you're doing a great job of showing personality while selling the outfit, which is what H&M is all about. The only negatives are that I don't like what you did with either of your hands and that it lacks a tiny bit of the refined element you expect from H&M, but it is definitely still usable and definitely still a very strong photo.
Your cover is also
fantastic, it's quite soft and pretty, and very contemporary Teen Vogue. You look so young, fresh, and beautiful, your skin looks wonderful and I just get lost in your eyes, they have such a great connection with the camera. I don't like how your eyes are looking in different directions, but other than that I can't find a flaw, this is definitely a cover I'd stop to look at.
COUTURE
Kate - Your
ad is decent, I do see Alexander McQueen here. Your expression is very strong and you look very edgy. I don't have much else to say though for once, it's a good photo, but nothing to write home about.
Your
cover is so Interview, I could see it as a cover for them right now. Your eyes are so piercing and I like how one of them is partially obscured by the dark orange streak, it makes it more mysterious and interesting. Your face also looks amazing, and overall this is just a very entrancing image that would work splendidly for a cover, so great job!
Marcelina - Your
ad has Alexander McQueen written all over it, it's perfect. Your body looks amazing, especially your legs, you sell the dress, and your expression is so haunting and eerie in a way that draws me in. I especially love how you are twisting your body, it works perfectly for the warped background. Amazing job!
I'm not as blown away by your
cover, however. It's definitely still a great shot, but I know you can do better. Your face looks beautiful and I love how you're using your youthful, ethereal quality to your advantage, overall this is a very enchanting image. I really could see it as an Interview cover, it just doesn't have as much pop and wow factor that I know you could give.
Thuy - Your
ad is very lovely. It's perhaps not quite as dramatic and daring as a typical McQueen ad, but it still has an eerie and haunting element that makes it work. I think you are absolutely perfectly positioned in this photo from head to toe; your pose gives your body great shape and the angled arms keep it interesting, the flowing dress looks wonderful, and your position in front of the Ferris wheel makes this all the more interesting. You have a good neck extension and your face looks so beautiful at this angle, and you're really connecting with something in the distance. Very well done.
Your
cover is very interesting...closing your eyes was a huge risk and something you'd almost never see on a normal cover, but since Interview is unique and risky, this is something they would do. You look so beautiful, your bone structure and skin look especially great, and overall this is a very captivating image despite the closed eyes. Between the darkness and bold colors and unique story-telling aspect of this photo, I would definitely stop to look at it on a magazine rack. I do wish you had done something different with your mouth, but overall well done.
EDITORIAL
Bambi - It took you a while to capture Max Mara in your film, but your
ad was solid in the end. It's very sensual, yet still simple and chic, and you do sell the outfit well. You look very tall and statuesque, and your neck and bone structure look great though this perhaps isn't the best angle for your nose. The setting isn't quite as basic as his typical ads, but sometimes he strays from the studio ads so this still works, and overall it's a good ad.
You slayed the HB
cover shoot, your film was fantastic and this photo is just perfect. I've never seen you looking so elegant and refined, you're just radiant here and I love the over the shoulder pose and you have a great connection with the camera. I'd continue critiquing, but it would just be more praise with no negative criticism so I'm just going to stop now and deem this flawless.
Kim - Your
ad is very Max Mara, I quite like it. It's basic and simple but not boring, your expression is very strong and your eyes are quite piercing, which grabs my attention. I usually don't like an open mouth much in a photo but for some reason it actually works for me here, and overall this has a sophisticated edge that is really appealing so well done. I also like how you look mature here, you usually have such a youthful look yet Max Mara's targets aren't really youth.
Your
cover is also quite strong, I like how you changed it up with a softer expression because I haven't seen that much with you. Your hands are very elegant and graceful which works well with your outfit, and your face looks very beautiful. There's something slightly off about your expression though, it's not bad and I wouldn't quite say it's disconnected or lifeless but it could use more connection and life. Your youthfulness also plays a little bit against you here for Bazaar's demographic, but not too much where it wouldn't still work, and overall this is still a lovely cover.
Shalom - Your
ad is very MaxMara, you nailed the client. It's edgy, cool, and mysterious, yet still simple and chic. This is such a great angle for your face, your jawline and cheekbones look especially amazing as do your lips, and I also like the neck extension. I do wish you had done more with your eyes though, either closed them completely or put some expression in them because right now they just look a bit sleepy, and I also wish you had done something different with the purse to make it stand out more since it kinda blends in with your outfit, but overall well done.
Your
cover doesn't really do much for me I'm afraid. You did have one stunning shot in the middle of your film that would be great for an inside editorial, but didn't work as a Bazaar cover mostly because their covers always have direct eye contact. Anyway, this shot isn't bad, it's just really boring. You look pretty, the outfit looks nice, your body looks okay...there's not much else to say, you look a bit matronly and bored, there's nothing about this that stands out and I'd probably just skim over it on a magazine stand.
GLAMOUR
Eniko - At first I didn't think your
ad really worked for Victoria's Secret, but after looking back some of their ads are a bit darker and more mysterious so I guess it does still work, though overall your film was edgier than I would've liked. You do look very sexy and sultry, and you are displaying the lingerie quite well so I'd want to buy it. I liked the neck extension and the thrown back head works, and the sensuality of the expression is great, but I wish you had tilted your head more towards the camera because this isn't a flattering angle for your nose and your head looks a bit stiff. But overall good job.
I don't think you really understood the objective of the GQ
cover shoot, the shots that worked best for covers weren't sexy enough but the sexiest shots weren't cover material. This shot kinda finds a balance between the two, it works as a cover shot and does have sex appeal with the pose, but not enough with the face. Your body looks great, especially your legs, and I love the popped hip. And your face does look beautiful, but your expression is a bit blank when it should be either sexy and enticing or flirty and confident. It would certainly still work as a GQ cover, but it is the only shot in your film that did and there's still room for improvement.
Natasha - Your
ad fits Victoria's Secret perfectly, it's very playful, flirty, and coy. You look sexy yet cute, your body looks good and you sell the underwear. I just wish you weren't missing an arm, but overall well done.
Your GQ
cover is wonderful as well, it's a unique and risky angle and it definitely pays off, it's a stand-out shot that I'd stop to look at immediately. I like the overall symmetry, and you still look very sexy despite the fact that your breasts aren't even visible. What makes this very GQ though is that you have a straw in your mouth, and they often feature models with something in their mouths so good job on that unique detail.
